The Princess Royal Trust for Carers held an Information Day at The Bridge in Andover. Stalls were manned by the Enham Trust, Transform, Simply Health, the DWP, TVBC, Andover CAB as well the Carers Centre.
Carers came along for a cup of tea and a pastry, and advice from those present.
Speaking at the event, Sir George spoke of the work of the Personalisation Commission, set up by Hampshire County Council, and said they were looking at the possibility of giving vouchers to those who cared, in recognition of their work. These might be exchanged for respite care.
He paid tribute to the work of the Princess Royal Trust, coping with a 400% increase in work over the past 12 months, and spoke to carers who had come to the Information Day. "What struck me was the number of elderly parents coping with children in the 30's and 40's suffering from mental illness."
He congratulated Kerry Wincott, the Chief Executive on the work of the Trust.
