Two Charities -Help for Heroes and the Newbury Spring Festival - benefitted from a fund-raising evening entitled "Music in the Garden" at Hazelby House in East Woodhay.

"It was enormously kind of Patrick and Gabrielle Hungerford to host this event in their fabulous grounds at Hazelby House"
From 6.30, the 500 guests could stroll around the 15 acre gardens to the music of the Dixie Lowfers Jazz Band; and at 8pm the Band of the Grenadier Guards Beat the Retreat, with the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mary Fagan, taking the salute. Wine and canapes were served.

The event was sponsored by Prime Purchase, and a raffle was held with prizes donated by Guy Sangster, Mr and Mrs Guy Weston, Penwood Nurseries, Donnington Valley and others.

"£20,000 is a great result - and all congratulations to those who organised the event so well."
