The Village of Ecchinswell held one of its largest ever fetes, with Ronaldo taking time off his discussions with Alex Ferguson to open the event, and then to coach the local teams. He follows in the steps of Posh and Becks who opened the fete two years ago.

"Gabrielle Burns organised this fete superbly, and it was lucky to have generous sponsorship from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, from R W Armstrong - local builders - and from the Winchester architects Robert Adam"

Neil Tordoff was MC and Sir George drew the raffle, which contained prizes such as a day for two at Newbury Races, dinner at the Carnarvon Arms, a crate of wine, vouchers from Berry Bros and Rudd and a gallon of vodka.

Proceeds of the fete, which raised over £4000, go to Ecchinswell School, St Lawrence's Church and the Village Hall. 700 people came to the event.
