The Committee of the Vernham Dean Playing Fields Association welcomed allcomers to the Village Fete, Flower Show and Dog Show.

"They could not have asked for a better day - and people came in their hundreds. It was a great day for families, raising money to improve the Pavilion and the playing fields, and helping to finance events such as the Bonfire Night."

The Clerk to the Parish Council, Karen Nightingale, added atmosphere by dressing up as a clown, and one of many local organisations represented at the fete was the Hawk Conservancy, raising funds for a lift for disabled people at Amport.

Attractions included a Magician, a Gun Dog display, five-a-side football and Beat the Goalie.
