To help raise funds to meet its quota, Penton held a Church Weekend. This comprised a Flower Festival in the Church, a Barn Dance and Supper in the Village Hall, and a Marriage Thanksgiving Service.
Art and Craftwork were for sale in the Church.
Also in the church were photographs of couples who had got married in the Church; and of people living in the village who had got married elsewhere. "Not all of them were instantly recognisable."
