Sir George looked in at three fetes on Bank Holiday Monday, as the fete season drew to a close. "There is Abbotts Ann to come and that is about it for the year."

At Kingsclere Church Fete, Sir George paid £1 for the privilege of throwing a sponge at the vicar - Rev Lucy Thirtle. "This was a very gentle lob - the age of chivalry is not dead"

At Goodworth Clatford Village Fete, Sir George looked in at the Clatford Amateur Dramatic Society stall. "Cliff and Alwyn Tucker - who run CADS - won the Jubilee Cup. This is the award made annually to a local person or group who has been nominated as the person or group who villagers believe has contributed most to the life and well being of the village. This was well deserved"

Sir George rounded off the day at the Appleshaw fete and Flower Show
