David Heathcoat Amory MP, Shadow Chief Secretary, addressed the Andover Business Forum Lunch, held at Mitutoyo on the West Portway Industrial Estate. On the left is Keith Wells of SMA (UK) Ltd; then David Heathcoat-Amory, then Sir George and David Hearnshaw, Chairman of the Business Forum.
Mr Heathcoat Amory criticised the Labour Government’s Treasury team for being short of real business experience, and of regarding industry simply as a source of taxation. He was particularly critical of IR 35 – a proposal which makes it more difficult for people to run service companies working for the IT industry in the UK; and of increases in stamp duty, which were hitting business hard.
Businessmen at the meeting were highly critical of the Government for the recent increase in fuel prices.
