Sir George backs free Energy Saving Light Bulb campaign
16 Sep 2008
Sir George went to his local Bingo Hall in Andover to endorse the giving away of 2 million free energy-saving light bulbs.

He met regular player Olive Shirraw, who picked up her bulbs on the way in. With Sir George was the Manager of the Andover Bingo Hall, Linda Mitchell, and Shani Stewart, the Communications Manager of Southern Electric who are joint sponsors of the scheme.

"Many of those who play Bingo are retired and living on fixed incomes. They are worried about this winter's fuel bill, and replacing conventional bulbs with these low energy bulbs will help keep these bills down - as well as saving CO2 emissions. If all two million bulbs are used, this would save £6.5 million per year, and 26,000 tonnes of CO2."

"I congratulate Mecca Bingo and Southern Electric on this initiative. As part of this campaign, some customers camn also take up the offer of free loft and cavity wall insulation."
