June 18th to 24th was Senior Volunteer Action Week, and Sir George responded to a challenge from the Speaker of the House of Commons to help senior volunteers in his constituency.
With Jack and Betty Pintches of Charlton, he helped deliver 12 meals on wheels to elderly people living on their own in Andover. “I was struck by how pleased people were to see us – in many cases, it would be the only contact with a fellow human being the whole day. The WRVS do a first class job delivering meals, with the help of volunteers like Betty & Jack. They are all heroes.”
The journey covered eight miles and took just over an hour. WRVS need more volunteers for their rota. Contact Julie Tye at WRVS, Suffolk Rd, Andover (01264 352860)
