Sir George seeks assurance on banking jobs in Andover
23 Sep 2008
Following the take-over of HBOS by Lloyds, Sir George is seeking assurances about the jobs of the Lloyds TSB operations in Andover; and of the jobs in the banks and building societies in the High St that will come under the umbrella of the new organisation.
"Several hundred people work in Charlton Place in Andover, carrying out vital work for Lloyds TSB for those changing bank accounts and doing other back-up work. And, in the High St, we have the Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society, Lloyds and Halifax."
"I understand the anxiety of employees, who read about the opportunity to reduce costs by shedding staff; and who have read about assurances given to the workforce in Scotland, which have not been repeated for the workforce in England"
"I have written to Sir Eric Daniels, Chairman of Lloyds TSB, seeking information and re-assurance about future plans."
