HRH The Earl of Wessex formally opened Burnham Copse Primary School in Newchurch Rd, Tadley by unveiling a plaque.

The new school incorporates the two former schools in Newchurch Road, with the former Infants School being disposed of and consolidated on the site of the Junior School.

The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mary Fagan, introduced Prince Edward to the High Sheriff of Hampshire, Michael Campbell, the Mayor of Basingstoke and Sir George.

The Headteacher Lyn Downes and the Chairman of Governors, Penny Waterfield, took the Prince and the guests round the school.

Before unveiling the plaque, the Prince apologised for losing his voice and said how much he had enjoyed going round the school, talking to pupils and staff.

At the end, Liam Rafter and Katie Bradshaw presented the Prince with a commemorative mug, and the children sang a school song written for the occasion.

"This is clearly apopular and successful school, and they gave us all a day to remember."
