Vera McArthur spent part of the Second World War working for the Land Army in Wiltshire, and Sir George formally presented her with the medal that the Government issued last year.
"Vera is now at Willow Court, and her husband Alan arranged a great party to commemorate the event."

"Vera's memory is not as good as it was, but she does like to talk about her farming days – particularly about her duties as a milk maid before the days of pumps."

She followed her elder sister into the Land Army and stayed in that area before marrying Alan in the 1960's. She then travelled round the world with Alan, who had a career in the Armed Forces.

County Councillor Pat West also attended the event, along with Vera's daughter Linda.
