Sir George accepted an invitation from PC Richard Baldwin, Beat officer for Overton, to spend an hour with him on his patch.
"I was enormously impressed by Richard's local knowledge, and by the number of people who waved at him as we went round. Crime in his area is well below the national average, but there are some particular challenges such as poaching, stealing farm machinery, and illegal dog races."
Sir George spent some time at Whitchurch police station, meeting other beat officers and the traffic police who are based there. He also inspected the bicycles allocated to the police.
The only local crime committed while Sir George was on patrol was a car stolen from North Oakley.
