The Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society performed Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera "The Gondoliers" at the Haymarket in Basingstoke.
"This was a sparkling performance, well directed by Keith Reynolds, with some good dancing and excellent acting. Martin Palmer's Don Alhambra was straight from The Godfather, and Kate Webb clearly has some blue blood in her, as she was a great Duchess. Helen Palmer did well to stand in for Casilda at short notice. With the Duke selling his services for cash, there was a certain topicality in this operetta, written over 100 years ago."
"I hadn't been to the Haymarket since it re-opened, and it looked very good, with an almost full house."
