Cengage Learning Services are consolidating their operations in Andover, brigning 100 jobs to the town
Cengage operates from Cheriton House on Walworth Business Park. (They were known as Thomson Publishing Services until July 2007, when the Thomson Corporation sold its education division to fund the purchase of Reuters.)
The company was bought by a private equity company called Apax who gave the new company the name of Cengage Learning Services. For many years from the Andover base, services such as warehousing, distribution, customer and financial services have been provided to the in-house education and library reference publisher (Cengage Learning EMEA) based in London and Reading. Last summer the decision was made to relocate all of the publishing activity and base it at Cheriton House in Andover by July 2009.
"This is excellent news for Andover, which has been chosen ahead of other potential locations as the base for Cengage"
The relocation of the Reading and London offices to Andover is under way. As some of the London and Reading staff will not want to relocate or commute to Andover this will mean that a number of vacancies will become available for Andover people and those in nearby towns and cities. A number of local appointments have already been made.
As part of the recruitment drive, an open evening was held on 5th March between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm. This provided an opportunity for the public to view the offices and talk to staff about the range of education publishing appointments that will be on offer over the next few months.
"These new jobs are a story for Andover at a time when the economic news generally is not good. "
Sir George met Marketing Director Rossella Proscia, Jill Jones (CEO) and Barry Hinchmore, the General Manager who has been in charge on the site up to now.
"Cengage struck me as good employers, working closely with the JobCentre, and offering a wide range of full and part-time jobs on the Walworth Estate. Their confidence in the town is very welcome."
