Sir George looked in on the Bridge in Andover for the Information Day during Carers Week.
'It was great to meet Kerry Wincott again, the Chief Executive, and catch up on the news from the Princess Royal Trust in Hampshire. They do fantastic work supporting those with caring responsiblities in and around the town'
Sir George complimented those running the stores on the Information Day, providing advice about benefits, health and social services. 'I welcome the recent launching of Carers Direct, the new website and telephone helpline for carers, and the recent grants to both the NHS and social services to help with respite care. Six out of ten carers say that the biggest thing that we can do to help them is to give them a break'
Sir George also welcomed the increase in the amount that could be earned, without affecting the carer's allowence. This has now gone up to £95 per week.' Sir George spoke to carers who found it difficult to navigate the benefits system and applauded the advice given by the PRT.
"But if people find they are getting really stuck, they should contact their MP"
