Sir George opened St Mary's Church Fete in Andover, and invited those present to visit the newly re-opened Chantry Cottage - a listed building which had been dismantled from its former site and re-assembled next to the church.

He complimented Cas Wickenden on organising the fete, which would raise the profile of the church, and generate funds for its work.
After the opening Sir George judged the sponge cake competition. "I am afraid this was not a professional job. Instead of looking at texture, presentation etc, I chose the one that tasted best as first prize, and the biggest one as second prize. I doubt if I will be asked to do this again."
