Sir George opened the fete at Steventon, held at Oakdown House, home of Gillian and Jay Devonshire. Proceeds go towards the church and the village hall.

"This was a traditional village fete, held in the grounds of one of the larger houses in the village, with all the traditional attractions. The fete focuses on activities for children, at which there were a large number".

Opening the fete, Sir George congratulated Rachel Palmer and her team on organising the event, and said he was prepared to forgive the village for the jokes at his expense during the excellent village pantomine earlier in the year.
