The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan opened Armed Forces Day in the Vigo Road Recreation Ground in Andover. She was accompanied by the Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Ian Hibberd. Shortly after the Red Devils did a parachute drop, landing with precision on a marker in the middle of the field. This was followed by a Forces Fit Session with Gun run and stretcher race.

The Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Lieutenant General Sir Freddie Viggers arrived later for a fly pass to the historical flight, and the presentation of affiliation badges for the Army Cadet Force and of veteran badges.

Later on, there was a Thanksgiving Service and a march pass through the town centre.

"Armed Forces Day held commemorative events which I hope will become as familiar and respected as Remembrance Day, remembering and honouring those who died serving their country.

"Many congratulations to the British Legion in Andover for organising this spectacular event, together with a Service of Thanksgiving."

Other activities during the day included a re-enactment by the Sealed Knot, and the event was sponsored by Simply Health, Twining Teas and other local organisations.
