Overton held a Scarecrow Festival and Family Fun Weekend from July 17th to July 19th. The high point were events held at the Overton Recreation Centre which included a wheelie bin derby, maypole and sword dancing, and a balloon race.

"Overton has done very well for the past 2 weeks in displaying scarecrows in hundreds of locations in and around the village. Some of these were extremely imaginative, for example, the scarecrow dressed as a policeman behind a speed camera, at exactly the location which the police sometimes used to check speeds. Other scarecrows were BT engineers climbing telegraph poles, tightrope walking, and other ingenius poses".

There was a wheelbarrow race around the village on the Friday evening, with entrants having to call at local watering places on the way.

Some of the exhibits from the scarecrow festival will be displayed on the website of the Overton Photographic Club in due course. www.overtonphotographicclub.org.uk/
