One of the stalls at the annual St Mary Bourne Flower Show and Fete was run by Team SMB. They are raising funds for the church youth group based in the village to visit Uganda next year, to help young people in Mityana, a town about 40 miles from Kampala.
"Dodie Marsden has been running this project for some years, and it has grown from strength to strength. Young people in St Mary Bourne and Whitchurch raise some £800 to fund their own trip to Uganda plus a further £500 to support projects in the village that they visit. The funds raised can help repair schools and provide water tanks. While they are out there, the children are twinned with a Ugandan child of the same age, and both sides benefit from this relationship. St Mary Bourne children also take out a selection of games, and have also taken in the past two weeks' supply of maize, flour and sugar".
