The Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust held its public Annual General Meeting in the Peaches Restaurant in Andover War Memorial Hospital.
Both the Chairman, Mike Gretton, and the Chief Executive, Martin Wakeley, spoke of the challenging financial environment in which the trust would be working, as said that they were determined that this should not prejudice patient care. "We're told that the Trust made a surplus of £286,000 for 2008/09, which, when added to the accumulated surpluses of the previous two years of £1.1 million, were positive steps to recovering the deficit reported in 2005/06. We were told that a large number of targets where now being achieved, and that increased emphasis was being put on patient care."
Sir George said that he was delighted that work was preceding on the new out-patients department, and was impressed by the emphasis on nursing excellence. The Chairman, Mike Gretton, read out the letter from a relative of somebody who had been trated at Winchester Hospital, complimenting the staff on the high quality treatment, and the commitment to personal patient care.
