Waitrose in Andover celebrated the first anniversary of it's "Community Matters" scheme, whereby shoppers can put tokens into one of three compartments, in order to raise funds for one of three good causes in a particular month. "Since September last year, Waitrose employees and customers at the Chantry Centre branch have donated a total of £12,000 to 36 community projects in and around Andover."

Sir George was present to hand over this month's cheque of £1,000 to the Macular Disease Society (based in Andover), the Kingfisher Ward at Andover Hospital, and Andover Mind. Sir George said that people in and around Andover who had a good cause that they felt might benefit from the scheme should make a nomination by filling in the Waitrose Community Matters leaflet at the welcome desk in the store.
