"It is disappointing that they won't revisit the decision. If the bank will indeed be closed, we need to consider urgently how best to re-provide banking services in the town."

Dear Sir George
Thank you for your time at our recent meeting on 10 November in which you represented the concerns of your constituents affected by the forthcoming closure of our Whitchurch branch. Further to our conversation I write to address the specific points which you raised.
Firstly, please may I reiterate that the decision to close the branch was only made after we very carefully assessed the sustainability of the premises at Whitchurch in a study that considered, as far as was possible, the town, the people and the local businesses along with all other internal and external factors. I am afraid that, whilst we recognise the value of our services to our Whitchurch customers, there is still the underlying fact that costs considerably exceed income at this branch, and have done so for some time. I am sorry to say that the decision to close is final and our Whitchurch branch will close at 3:30 pm on Friday, 22 January 2010 as previously advised.
Following concerns being raised with regards to limited access to a fee free cash machine in Whitchurch, we have taken the decision to retain our existing cash machine whilst we look to secure an alternative site, which would be subject to local planning permission and our security guidelines. As with all of our cash machines we will regularly review usage and availability of other free fee cash machines.
You also asked me to clarify what would happen to the building once we vacated the premises. As we are now retaining the cash machine there are no immediate plans to relinquish the lease whilst looking to secure an alternative site.

I am pleased to confirm that our local branches in Andover and Overton are open and available to our customers at the following times;

Andover
Overton

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

09.00 to 17.00 09.30 to 17.00 09.00 to 17.00 09.00 to 17.00 09.00 to 17.00 10.00 to 14.00
09.30 to 15.30 09.30 to 15.30 09.30 to 15.30

My principal concern in the remaining period of time prior to closure is to ensure that we meet our customers' banking needs in the best way we can. To this end, as I mentioned in my previous letter, I would be grateful if you would kindly make me aware of any individual cases of difficulty that may be raised with you, so that we may do our utmost to arrange for appropriate assistance.
Yours sincerely
