The first 'Shop Personality of the Year' in the Clatfords was Clive Jones, who received the cup from local MP Sir George Young.
"Clive was the postman in the village for many years, but now handles the newspaper business based at the shop. He is in the shop each weekday morning at 4.45am when he receives, sorts and collates the rounds for all the papers in the village. He then delivers the Longstock rounds himself".
Sir George said he was delighted to present Clive with the award, and afterwards Sir George was given a Loyalty Card.
"This is a card which gives holders discounts in businesses in Andover and Stockbridge. It is a marvellous way of encouraging people to commit to the shop in Goodworth Clatford".
The event turned into a street party, with mulled wine and hot snacks, and the school choir singing Christmas carols. Among those present were County Cllr Andrew Gibson, who presented a cheque to the shop association for £9,300 to help with the improvements to the shop and post office and Sally Hughes, the shop manager.
Sir George paid tribute to the village in persuading the Post Office to save the local sub-post office.
"This was the only post office in Hampshire that was reprieved, after a vigorous campaign by the village, two years ago".
