Quentin Shillingford came back to Andover to formally open the Sweet Science Academy - Andover's boxing club - in its new site at West Way, on the Walworth Business Park.

Quentin grew up in Andover and attended the Andover Amateur Boxing Club from 1978 to 1985, being coached by Billy Pike. He joined the Royal Navy in 1985 and became the Royal Navy Champion from 1985-1991, and the Combined Service Champion from 1987 to 1991. He has developed the GB Boxing Awards, currently promoting amateur boxing and young people's involvement in sport and education.

"Liz Addington, who is the head coach and founder of the Sweet Science Academy, deserves congratulations for maintaining the momentum to find a site for the Academy. I was interested to hear of the tournaments that the club goes in for, as well as hosting the National Schoolboy Championships".

Thirty juniors and thirty seniors regularly train at the club, where the emphasis is on discipline and fitness. Helping the mayor to cut the cake with Sir George was the Mayoress, Theresa Hibbert, and County Cllr Pat West and her husband Peter.
