Eight years after he opened the Abbotts Ann village shop, Sir George went back to open an extension of the services which the shop offers. With help from a grant from Hampshire County Council, the shop has invested in some outdoor furniture so people can enjoy a cup of coffee in the open air. A new freezer has been purchased and a high quality coffee machine to add to the range of goods and services being provided.
While he was there, Sir George stocked up with local produce and complimented the village on supporting their shop.
"Geraldine and Carol are to be congratulated on driving this project forward, and what has happened in Abbotts Ann is an example to villagers throughout England that want to keep high quality local services available to their residents".
Sir George was introduced by the chairman of the village shop committee, Donald Sorterup.
