Guest of Honour at Beating the Retreat at the Museum of Army Flying was HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who is Patron of the Museum of Army Flying.
The Trustees had invited a number of guests to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain, and to launch the heritage appeal. There was a fly past which included a chipmunk, and then Beating the Retreat with the salute taken by Prince Michael.
The museum is launching an appeal for a further extension, in order to accommodate the archives, and new aircraft such as gliders. The total cost of the extension will be some £2 million, of which the Trustees will need to raise about £750,000.
"This has been an enormous success story under the leadership of Marion Paviour, and the appeal got off to a great start with a memorable evening.
