Sir George launched a Pamper Day for carers at The Bridge, organised by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Sir George is President of the Winchester and Andover branch.

Speaking at the opening, Sir George said that, as Leader of the House, he had just announced that there would be a debate on July 1 on "supporting carers to have a life ourside caring." He said he hoped it would be a constructive and consentual debate, indicating what the next step should be to make life easier for those who had caring responsibilities. Sir George thanked Sharon Hart, Kerry Wincott's PA, for organising the event, and urged those who had come along to take advantage of the pampering sessions which had been made available. "We are enormously fortunate in Andover to have such an active branch of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, giving support and advice to those with caring responsibilities, and indeed to those who are cared for. I find it very helpful, as a Minister of the Government, to have a conversation with the Trust about policy. Given the very real problems with public expenditure, it is important that we take intelligent decisions, that recognise the burdens that are carried by those who care for friends and family."
