United Shield make protective clothing and armour for Police Forces and the Armed Services throughout the world, and have a thriving export market. Visitors were given a tour of the factory, which gave them an opportunity to look at the processes involved, to meet the staff, and to see the finished equipment. "The lives of our police, and of many soldiers in the world depend on the products of United Shield, and it is good news for Andover that their export trade has received this recognition from Dame Mary Fagan."

The citation was read out, and the Lord Lientenant presented Terry Hand with a glass bowl, which represented the award. Afterwards, there were drinks and canapes.
