Sir George opened the School Christmas Fair at Vernham Dean Gillum's Church of England Primary School, and was joined by Father Christmas and Test Valley Brass.

"The children made many of the goods that were on sale, but also offered a wide variety of games and intellectual challenges to raise funds for the school. It was good to see the headteacher, Martin Lambert, and catch up on the school's news. It is one of the most popular and successful schools in Hampshire".

Sir George also saw the 64 Netbook computers which had been bought for the school, to enhance its IT capability.

"There are now 82 computers in the school, and 97 children on the roll. This is a marvellous ratio, and the new Netbook computers have access to the internet offering the children a fantastic access to information".
