Campaigners in Whitchurch were collecting signatures for a final push, to get Whitchurch to the top of the British Telecom league table and qualify for faster Broadband.
"Mike Stead, Andrew Reeves-Hall and John Buckley have done heroic work with the rest of the team, including the Mayor of Whitchurch, Cllr John Clark, and Harriet Titcomb, Chair of the Whitchurch Association, in persuading local people to petition BT for faster Broadband. As we go into the last lap, Whitchurch is near the top of the league, but there is some strong competition from Cambridgeshire".
Campaigners have been leafleting and calling on telephone subscribers in the town, and the White Hart Pub has a facility in the pub where people can register their support online.
"With the bad weather that we are all experiencing, this underlines the need for those who live in rural areas to have access to high speed internet connections, so they can compete on equal terms to those in the city - who are often less inconvenienced by the bad weather. More and more people are working from home - either through choice or necessity - and they are more efficient if they have fast connections."
