Whitchurch Church of England Primary School had a Greek Democracy day, when the children dressed up as Greek children would have done in the days of the Athenians and the Spartans. "I was very impressed by how much the pupils knew about democracy in Greece, and I hope I brought them up to date by explaining the principles behind our Parliamentary system. I encouraged some of them to think about standing for parliament, and being modern day democrats."

Sir George complimented the school on its recent Ofsted report, and answered questions for half an hour about his role in the House of Commons.

"It was good to see the Head, Sarah Peters, again and to catch up with the school's news. It is a popular successful school, and it was marvellous to see them taking this particular project so seriously."
