Sir George opened the Shipton Bellinger village fete, which had a number of new features such as a parade of classic cars and bikes.

"Many congratulations to John Hughes and his committee for organising the fete, which raises funds for local causes." In addition to the Real Ale Beer Tent, there were a number of arena events including Shotokan Carate, and an Army Cadet Force Fieldcraft display. The fete is the culmination of fete week which this year included a Scarecrow competition. Sir George bought some lilies from the plant stall and a cake from the WI stall.

Moving on to the North Waltham Country Fair, Sir George complemented the organisers there for helping to raise funds for the church. "They provided an excellent tea complete with Strawberries and Cream, and Sebastian's Action Trust had a stall at the Country Fair, prior to the opening of the home for holiday respite for children and their families.
