Sir George condemns riots
9 Aug 2011
“I condemn completely the acts of violence and looting that have blighted communities in London and other parts of the country over the last couple of nights. The total disregard and disrespect for other people’s properties and livelihoods is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The police as ever are doing a brilliant job under enormous pressure, and the extra resources which the Prime Minister has announced are being deployed tonight will send a very clear signal to those people who are responsible that any criminality will be met with the full force of the law.

“It’s absolutely right that Parliament is being recalled on Thursday, so that the Prime Minister can update the House and so that MPs from all parties can voice the disgust and approbation that will be felt by all our law-abiding constituents.”
