The annual 'Ride and Stride' event took place in Hampshire over the weekend, with walkers and cyclists visiting as many churches as possible in the day, to raise funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Historic Churches Trust.

The Chairman, Lady Appleyard met Sir George at Appleshaw Church, with other cyclists.

“We started off at Tangley church, where the Tangley Café provided us with warm and generous hospitality. This inspired us on the subsequent ride round local churches, which included Appleshore. The rector (far right in picture) Ian Tomlinson was there to greet us, along with other church wardens.”

Sir George said that although the weather was not as fine as it could have been, he had met a good number of cyclists on the routes between the churches, and was sure that a useful sum of money would be raised from the event.

Last year, five local churches in North West Hants were among the top twenty fundraising churches of the 350 churches taking part, and Appleshaw, Thruxton and Shipton Bellinger have been great supporters of the scheme for some time – along with other villages such as St Mary Bourne.
