The Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Mrs Zilliah Brookes, officially opened the Wellington centre for Andover and District MENCAP.

This was combined with a family fun day, which also provided an opportunity for visitors to see the range of facilities available at the centre.

“This building is a fantastic new resource for the town, much closer to the town centre than the Bonhomie centre, which it replaces. I commend the energy of MENCAP in raising the huge sum of money, in a challenging financial climate, for this new venture and I know that it will improve the quality of life, not just of Mencap’s clients, but for the many other voluntary organisations who will use the building”

In the picture with Sir George is Simon Tyler, far left, the Chief Executive of MENCAP and one of the driving forces behind the new building.

“A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity for a preview and was enormously impressed by the lightness of the building, the quality of the workmanship, and the wide range of facilities available for the many users who will be welcomed in the building”
