The Deputy Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Dorothy Baverstock and Lady Young, the President of the League of Friends of Andover Hospital, unveiled a plaque in the Phlebotomy Department, to commemorate the funds which the League of Friends raised to help pay for the chairs.

"Much of the money the League of Friends raised was raised by the gardeners, led by Brian Critcher, who sell plants outside Peaches Restaurant. They have raised the best part of £25,000 over the last 10 years, and this has helped buy the chairs that patients sit in, while their blood tests are carried out.

The advantages of these chairs is that, if the patient feels unwell during the blood test, they can be treated in the chair, without the nurses having to help them on to a stretcher or couch."

Also at the ceremony were the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Winchester & Eastleigh Trust, Mike Gretton and Chris Gordon.

Georgie Smith, one of the nurses, explained to Sir George that she did about sixty tests a day, and the new chairs made her job a lot easier, as well as being better for the patient.
