Sir George welcomes Lottery Award for Jane Austen Home
7 Oct 2011
Sir George has written to the Heritage Lottery Fund, welcoming their decision to award £10,000 to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation to help them discover the lost rectory in Steventon, where Jane Austen lived for 22 years.

“This project will engage the local community in exploring the archaeological heritage of the original Steventon Rectory, demolished in the 19th century and home of Jane Austen for 22 years.

It is sad that nothing remains of her home, and I welcome this project to learn more about it.”

Sir George is descended from Jane Austen's brother, Edward.
