Five of Hampshire's MPs went to The Castle at Winchester to launch the Heroes Welcome Scheme in the County. "The Heroes Welcome logo is a badge proudly displayed by communities up and down the country, where members of the scheme offer special acknowledgement to service personnel and their families."

The campaign began in Scarborough earlier in the year, following a hostile reception in Luton to returning members of the Armed Forces. "That was wholly unrepresentative of sentiments in the country as a whole, and the Heroes Welcome campaign was subsequently launched to ensure that people are given an opportunity to appreciate returning members of the Armed Forces."

The formal opening of the scheme took place after the 2 minute silence was held at the doors to the council chamber at Winchester County Council. There was a short service of commemoration and the Chairman of the County Council, Anna McNair Scott, laid a wreath.

Further details of the scheme are available on the website, see below.
