Sir George visited Andover Sorting Office to see at first hand how postmen and women were coping with the Christmas Mail. "It has been a turbulent year for those working for Royal Mail, as the way the service operates has been restructured. This has put a lot of pressure on postmen and women who have, at times, struggled to deliver the quality of service that we all expect, and they want to achieve."
Sir George is pursuing with Royal Mail the policy of withdrawing bicycles for delivery "no one wants employees to work in a dangerous environment, but I wonder whether withdrawing the bicycle and replacing them with vans is efficient and environmentally effective. I am pursuing this with the Chief Executive of Royal Mail." Sir George complimented the staff on their hard work, and said that, while there had been hiccups recently, the consensus of opinion in his constituency was that the service had improved in recent weeks.
