Wood and Douglas is a privately owned UK company, whose headquarters are in Baughurst. As the company expands, it opened a new unit on Young's Industrial Estate (no relation) in Aldermaston, and the firm's MP was invited by Alan Wood to perform the opening ceremony. "It is a real pleasure to open this new facility, as it shows that UK manufacturers are competetive in world markets - with 40% of Wood and Douglas's output being exported. It also shows that small and medium sized companies can be at the cutting edge of technology, as well as the larger companies; and also this new unit shows that, at a time when the economy is expanding slowly, firms such as Wood and Douglas are expanding at a much faster rate, creating new jobs in the area." Wood and Douglas were opening an in-house surface mount facility, which enables them to print computer boards. The new site trebles the amount of capacity that the company has, supporting activity from its satellite operations in Romsey and Saffron Walden.
Sir George complemented Alan Wood and his company on building the company from a small beginning in 1997, forging a reputation as one of the most robust and reliable providers of wireless products and services in the world.
