Oakley Bowling Club has benefited from a £50,000 grant from Sport England. This will go towards the rebuilding of the pavilion at Malshanger, where the club has been established for some 20 years.

The club have raised about £45,000 themselves, and are confident of raising the balance in the near future and are demolishing the existing pavilion, and building a new one. This will have proper facilities for disabled players and spectators, and will replace the old one which is now life expired. The President of Oakley Bowling Club, Barry Lee, welcomed Joel Brookfield, the relationship manager from Sport England and the local MP Sir George Young, when the cheque was formally handed over. Oakley Bowling has a 25 year lease on their green from Sir Michael Colman, owner of the Malshanger estate, who was also present. Coral Wearn, one of the vice presidents was also present to receive the cheque.

After the formal handover, there was a tea party at the Malshanger Club with some seventy members of Oakley Bowling Club present.

"This is a very successful club, with strong teams, and I believe they have the finest site in the whole of Hampshire".
