North West Hampshire's MP said he was appalled to learn of the death by drowning in Thornford Rd, following the heavy rainfall over the weekend. "My thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life."
"That stretch of road is without doubt the most dangerous section in my constituency, when it comes to the risk of flooding. When there is no water on any other road, there is quite often deep water in Thornford Road. There will have to be a coroner's inquest into this tragedy, and we must take seriously any recommendations that come out of that."
If Satnavs direct people down this road, it is for consideration whether their programnmes might be adjusted to avoid it. And we need to think again about appropriate signing; while there are plenty of warning signs, it is clear that motorists are not getting the message.
