Sir George formally opened Hurstbourne Tarrant Church of England Primary School's summer fair at which they hoped to raise some £3,000. "I very much hope they have a good response, and are able to raise the funds for a PA system for the school, using wireless mikes; and raise some funds to improve the play area for early years children. Proceeds from the fair will also help with outings, and I hope the school might visit the Houses of Parliament in the forthcoming year." There were some 48 stalls at the fair, including silent auctions, hamburger stall, a bar, with additional entertainment provided by country dancing by year 2, and a fun dog show.

The school did really well, with the programme raising nearly £400 in advertisements and, as always, there was a very good response from the village.
