The Annual Fete to raise funds for Hatherden School and Hatherden Church was opened by Sir George, who then judged the Jubilee Hat Competition assisted by his wife. "Hatherden always does very well in putting on a largescale fete, and this was no exception." The village is trying to raise funds for a defibrulator, which costs some £800. Sir George looked at a demonstration, which showed how a member of the public could use a defibrulator, located near the postbox in the middle of the village, and increase the chances of someone surviving a heart attack. "A number of villages in Hampshire have raised funds to purchase this equipment. It comes with its own instructions, is relatively easy to operate, and I was interested to hear that Hatherden, Wildhern and Tangley are making good progress in raising funds."

Otehr attractions at the fete included school dancing, Tai Kwando, and there was a very popular beer tent and hog roast.
