The Mayor of Basingstoke launched a Diamond Jubilee Trail from Heath End Village Hall at 10.30am, sending off some walkers at that time, some runners a little bit later, and some horse riders at 11am. The Grand Opening was performed by Sir George at 1pm, before attractions which included It's a Knockout competition, Dance Phaze and a Tug-of-War. Later on, there was a Jubilee Evening Concert entitled Sixties Nostalgia, which went on til 11.30pm.

"This was a very enjoyable event, and we are all grateful to the sponsors who made it possible - particularly Tadley Tandoori who supplied some traditional Indian food".

As Sir George was leaving, a contraption arrived, but Sir George was unable to stay to find out exactly what it did.

"I am grateful to Baughurst Parish Council, who organised the event, particularly Penny Waterfield the clerk to the Council; and Tony Jeffrey was invaluable on the loud speaker, and his wife Ann helped keep the show on the road".
