Sir George took time off from the House of Commons on Wednesday to go to Lloyds Bank in Charlton Place, to see the Olympic Torch arrive in the town. "Lloyds Bank put on a superb welcoming ceremony, inviting several hundred children from local schools to their grounds, and putting on some first class entertainment. In addition to wheelchair netball, wall climbing and sumo-wrestling, those present took party in keep fit exercises and listened to local bands."

Sir George met two of the local torch-bearers, Mike Dunham and James Mcdonal, who performed the torch kiss on the podium. "This has increased the interest of local people in sporting activity, and I hope it has encouraged a few future Olympic athletes."
