Sir George speaks up for Paras
10 Jun 1999
Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday June 10th, Sir George asked the Leader of the House for a debate on the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
“There is real concern that those who were on active service for their country 30 years ago may be facing unnecessary risks at the Inquiry because they have not been guaranteed immunity.”
Sir George was supported in his request by Gerald Howarth MP for Aldershot, where the Parachute Regiment is based.
While understanding the problem, the Leader of the House was unable to give any assurances.
