Sir George cuts the ribbon to open the skate ramp in the recreation ground at Kingsclere.
The project was sponsored by Kingsclere Parish Council, with Chairman Elizabeth Kay on the left. Peter Meritt, next to her, supervised the project, which took three years to come to fruition. Funds came from Sport England, with Jennie Owen holding the cheque for £6000; and from Basingstoke and Deane Council, who put up £7,500. They are represented by Mike Nicholls, the Youth Leisure Officer. In front are the customers.
“As I go round the villages in the constituency, the common cry from children is that there is not enough to do. I commend Kingsclere Parish Council for bringing this scheme to fruition. I know it involved a lot of work to find a site which caused minimum inconvenience.”
